BE RACE READY  with a training clinic in 2018!

Prepare yourself to experience Bowen’s challenging mountain trail race

If you are ready to commit to achieving this personal goal and want to feel well prepared, this 12-week training program is designed specifically for you. The intention is to help you build your strength and fitness in stages while remaining injury free. Training with a group is a great way to stay inspired and encourage each other on your journey.

Registration and Check in

Pre-race check in begins at 8am on event day. Runners coming from off island should plan to take the 8am ferry from Horseshoe Bay to ensure adequate time to fill out the waiver form and pick up race numbers.

This run can be completed as a relay in a team of three, with handoffs at each of the aid stations.  Register here for the full 21 km or the relay.

There will be drinks and snacks available at the finish line, as well as three aid stations on the course.  Great prizes for the top runners in each gender and age category as well as top relay team.

Fundraising

The Handloggers Half Marathon raises funds in support of Bowen Island Trail Society and other worthy causes which benefit members of the Bowen Island community.

Bowen Island Trail Society (BITS) is a volunteer organization dedicated to building and maintaining a well-integrated and interconnected community trail network for non-motorized trail users on Bowen Island.  Race proceeds will be used to support trail development and maintenance on beautiful Bowen Island for the benefit of the trail user community!

In 2018 we will also be continuing to support the Akili Girls Preparatory School in Kisumu, Kenya.  The Akili Girls’ Preparatory School is a gateway out of poverty for both students and teachers. Students attending the school come from the most dire conditions — living in extreme poverty with no path out. Through the efforts of the project’s cofounders David and Erick, and their commitment to giving women and girls a chance to succeed through quality, free, this community is beginning to transform.  Bowen Islander Alison Osborne has supported the project from construction and is a member of the Mama Hope Global Advocate Advisory Board.
